On Thursday, December 19, 2024, our beloved father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend returned home to our Heavenly Father after being loaned to us for 73 amazing years. It is with heavy sadness that we announce this passing.
Harvey Lee McAlister was born on June 18, 1951, in Atkinson, North Carolina, to James Grady McAlister and Lillian Inez Ridicke. At an early age, Harvey was baptized at Lakes Chapel Baptist Church in Atkinson, NC. Affectionately known as “Haywood” while being raised in Virginia.
The birth of Tasheba Lacresha Braxton in 1977 to Harvey Lee McAlister and Lisa Lynn Braxton defined his commitment to parenthood.
Haywood was a force of nature and he enjoyed being outside. At a family function, you could find him dozing off in a chair outside, even if it was an empty one in the house. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world. Anyone who knew Haywood knew that he was the most loving human being anyone could ask for. He was the funny bone in everyone's heart. His laugh was so distinguished it would make you laugh. His smile was bigger than life, and it would even make his eyes squint when he smiled. Haywood was a passionate craftsman who did handy work at any time. He might leave out a few parts, but he always claimed they were unnecessary. You never questioned his work.
Harvey Lee McAlister was predeceased by his father, James Grady McAlister, and his mother, Lillian Inez Ridicke, and was reunited with them in love. His sister and brother, Verdie Inez Powell and Larry Lee McAlister, and his nephew, Shawn Dontavis Talley, greeted him at the gates with open arms.
Anyone who knew Haywood knew that he was the most loving father. He is survived by his heartbeat, his devoted Daughter Tasheba Lacresha Braxton. His legacy of love and resilience will live on through her.
Cherishing his memories are siblings: James A McAlister, Linda Spivey, and James F McAlister.
Nieces and Nephews: Dennis Powell, Frances Powell, Antonio Powell, Priscilla Roberts, Youlina Gamble, Terrance Corbin , Ricky Singleton, Dwight Singleton, Tyne Campbell, James E Talley, Trina Allen and Amy Peerman.
