Mr. Harold Joyner Obituary
On Sunday, January 7, 2024, Harold Joyner, 75, of Hampton, Virginia peacefully transitioned from this earthly life into eternity with the Lord, where there is no pain and suffering but unspeakable joy!
Harold was born in Hampton, Virginia on September 22, 1948, to the late James Robert and Essie Mae Joyner. He was reared in Hampton, educated within the Hampton City School System and a graduate of Phenix High School, class of 1967.
Harold held a position as a painter at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company for a few months before realizing that was not his passion. Harold loved to talk and laugh, and he needed an audience that would appreciate his “giftof gab “and sense of humor. He was later employed by the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier for thirty-four faithful years. Harold had found his audience! It was as an employee of the Postal Service that he was given the nickname of “FLAPP” because he talked so much! There was never a dull moment when you were around him. After retiring from the Postal Service, he secured employment as a Security Officer for 11 years at Riverside Hospital in Newport News, Virginia.
Harold married his high school “sweetheart” and love of his life, Grace Hundley and from that union, they were blessed with two lovely daughters, Tamala(Tammy) and Tonya.
Harold loved his family and enjoyed cooking delicious meals for them! His grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews looked forward to and enjoyed spending time with their grandfather and uncle. When they were around, it bought joy and a sense of renewed youth.
Harold loved music and was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan. He loved fashion and was always well groomed – a “Dapper man.”
Harold accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and Lord and had a special relationship with the Lord.
Harold was preceded in death by his four siblings, Annie Morse Joyner, Dorothy Futrell, Esther Mae Joyner and Jamie Joyner, and brothers-in-law: Alexander Hundley and Earl Futrell.
Harold, a devoted, benevolent, and compassionate person, was genuinely loved by his family and many friends. He leaves in God’s care to cherish his memory, his wife of 55 years, Grace; two daughters, Tamala of Hampton, Virginia and Tonya Joyner of Charlotte, North Carolina; four grandchildren; Denzel and Raynard(Ja’Lese) Giles of Hampton, Virginia, Laurynn and Chandler Rance of Charlotte, North Carolina; three great grandchildren; Maleah, Ethan and Andrew Giles of Hampton, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Lottie Cooper of Lawrenceville, New Jersey and a host of loving nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
It is the desire of the Joyner family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
The family of Mr. Harold Joyner has entrusted his final care to C. C. Carter Funeral Home.
