Mr. Emmanuel Ambrose Gatling Sr., a man whose laughter could light up any room and whose presence brought joy wherever he went, peacefully entered eternal rest on January 9, 2026, at the age of 66. A lifelong resident of Newport News, Virginia, Emmanuel lived a full and vibrant life marked by service, love, and an enduring legacy of family and faith.
Born on August 2, 1959, in Newport News, Virginia, Emmanuel was the beloved son of the late Clifton Gatling Sr. and Barbara Gatling. He was educated in the Newport News Public School system and proudly graduated from Warwick High School. Answering the call to serve his country, Emmanuel honorably served in the United States Marine Corps, exemplifying discipline, courage, and dedication.
Following his military service, Emmanuel was employed by Pepsi-Cola, where he worked faithfully for many years until his retirement. Known for his infectious laugh and magnetic personality, Emmanuel was truly the life of the party. He loved to dance, play basketball, travel, and enjoy life to the fullest. His humor, warmth, and authenticity left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
Emmanuel later married Pamela Davis, with whom he shared a close and loving relationship until his final days. Family was the cornerstone of his life. He was a devoted father, a proud grandfather, a loving brother, uncle, and friend. His wisdom, love, and presence shaped the lives of those closest to him in ways that will never be forgotten.
Emmanuel Ambrose Gatling Sr. was preceded in death by his father, Clifton Gatling Sr.; his beloved son, Emmanuel A. Gatling Jr.; and his brothers, Cornelius Gatling and Walter Gatling.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother, Barbara Gatling; his three sons, Eugene Gatling, Jermaine Gatling, and Dwayne A. Leonard II; one sister, Shirley White; brothers Clifton Gatling Jr. and his wife Joyce Gatling, John J. Nixon and his wife Loretta Nixon, and Clarence Gatling; eight treasured grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
It is the desire of the Gatling family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
