Mr. DeWayne Parker Obituary

Mr. DeWayne Parker peacefully slipped into eternity on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Chesapeake Health and Rehabilitation Center in Chesapeake, VA, after 70 years of an eventful life.  Known lovingly to friends and family as “Parker” or “G-Pa.” DeWayne was born on October 31, 1954, in Newport News, VA. He was the third of four children of the late David and Minnie Parker.

DeWayne  graduated from Homer L. Ferguson High School in the elite Summer Class of 1972.  He worked at the Newport News Shipyard in reprographics before serving in the U.S. Air Force. Between 1984 through 2005, DeWayne served in an extensive career as an Offset Press Operator for a variety of successful print shops in California, Maryland, Texas, and Virginia after earning his diploma in the trade.

DeWayne was a fierce supporter of the San Antonio Spurs and an avid fan of the San Francisco 49ers. He was a walking sports statistician for every sport. DeWayne loved “old school” music and served as “DJ Parker” at the Waverly Rehab & Health Center, where he wowed the residents with his boombox attached to his Rollator. “G-Pa” spent his later years doting on his daughter and his grandchildren, as well as livening up many Parker family gatherings. DeWayne was “Mr. Fix-It,” as many drivers can attest to the number of their vehicles he kept on the road. He wore a mantle of God’s grace and mercy, and he is now free indeed.

DeWayne was predeceased by his sister and confidante, Janis Fay Mitchell. He is survived by siblings Carolyn Parker Lewis of Suffolk and Reggie Parker of Hampton. He leaves behind his caring former spouse, Marisa Wilson Parker; his cherished only daughter, Minda Parker Thurman (Leonard); two beloved “grand-twins,” Davin and Moriah Squires of Chesapeake; and bonus granddaughter, Amaiah Thurman. DeWayne was a loving uncle to niece Joi Taylor (son, Josiah Taylor) of Hampton; Newport News nephews Davon Mitchell (son, Davon and daughter, Shania); and Elvin Mitchell (sons, Travon and Kharon, daughter, Kamilah). A host of cousins and friends across the country mourn his departure.  Services are entrusted to C.C Carter Funeral Homes, Inc., of Newport News, VA
