He was born April 25, 1958, to the late James Edward Solomon, Sr. and Bertha Mae Solomon. He was proceeded in death by his son, Michael Wood, sister, Betsy Carter, brother-in-law, Joseph Hawkins and nephew, Lopaze Solomon.

He is survived by his children, Shawneequa Tyler, James Tyler, Chakita Wood, Tanisha Wood and Elizabeth Precious Solomon-Brown, grandchildren Armon Tyler, Jamayah Tyler, Aaron Tyler, Tanyah Barnes, Makayla Neal, Aryanna Hopwood, Takyah Ferguson, Janisa Tyler, Jabari Tyler, Justice Tyler, Alexia Journee Tate, great-grandchildren Caleb Tyler, Noel, Tyler, Armani Tyler, Braelin Tyler, Anahje’ Johnson, and Nasiyah Needham, brothers James Solomon, Jr. and Alphonso (Emma) Solomon, sisters Brenda Solomon, Benita Hawkins and Toby (Corey) Ross, special nieces LeTishia (Marcus) Carter, Timeka (Richard) Carter and Danita Carter, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and so many dear and close friends especially Helen Wood.

Charles aka “Slow Roll” was well known in downtown Newport News. He was educated in the public school system there and attended his beloved Huntington Middle School and Ferguson High School. He was a maintenance and factory worker by trade. Charles could fix anything and if he couldn’t, he knew someone that could. He taught his children how to fish and crab, repair bikes and cars, and who their people are. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and spoiling them with endless sweets! He could be seen riding his bike or walking all over downtown. Charles never met a beer he didn’t like and would often stop by, check on his friends and family and enjoy a cold one. He knew everyone and everyone knew him. He was a giving, kind soul full of wisdom and advice.

The family would like to thank the staff of both Sentara and Riversides hospitals for their unwavering support and dedication. All his caretakers and people who ran errands for him. You helped us in so many ways, and we are forever grateful.

It is the desire of the Solomon and Tyler families that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
