Mr. Bernard Lorenzo Wooden age 74, passed away on November 8, 2021. He was born May 19, 1947, in Newport News, Virginia to Ruth and Solomon Wooden. Bernard was a sweet spirit who knew how to bring joy and laughter to everyone he knew. Anyone who knew him remembered his style of humor, his love of sports, his love of cooking, but most of all his love of people.
After 30 years of federal service, Bernard retired from the Library of Congress. He worked in the IT department as a multimedia specialist a position perfectly suited for his love of gadgets and electronics. Unbeknownst to Bernard, he created a second family made up of a network of co-workers and team members who would eventually become lifelong friends.
Bernard is survived by his wife and soulmate Mary Wooden, stepdaughter Deidre Hayes, brother Solomon Wooden (Princetta), sister Barbara Crowell (Richard), sister Marie Williams (George), sister Lotte Truitt (Charles), a host of nieces and nephews, and posthumously, his son Bernard L Wooden Jr all of whom he loved dearly.
Viewing for Mr. Wooden will be held at 10:00a.m.until 11:00a.m. at which time services will commence at 11:00a.m. Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Goodwill Baptist Church 306 Catalpa Ave, Hampton, VA 23661by Pastor Solomon Wooden
Internment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
