It is with profound sadness and heartfelt gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Benjamin Timmons, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, mentor, and friend.

Benjamin was born on March 27, 1950, to the late Benjamin and Sallie Timmons. From an early age, he exemplified the values of hard work, integrity, perseverance, and service to others that would define his life and legacy.

A proud native of Newport News, Virginia, Benjamin graduated from Huntington High School in 1968 and continued his education at Norfolk State University, earning his degree in 1972. He was also a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., where he embraced the principles of achievement, brotherhood, and service throughout his life.

One of the greatest blessings of Benjamin’s life was his enduring love story with his beloved wife, Sandra. High school sweethearts, they later reconnected and built a loving partnership that spanned more than 48 years. Together they created a strong foundation rooted in faith, love, family, and unwavering commitment.

Benjamin dedicated more than four decades of professional service to public housing and community development. He spent much of his distinguished career with the Newport News Redevelopment and Housing Authority and the Williamsburg Redevelopment and Housing Authority, where he served as Director of Public Housing before retiring after more than 40 years of combined service. Through his leadership and dedication, he positively impacted countless individuals and families throughout the communities he served.

His commitment to serving others extended beyond his professional career. For many years, Benjamin served as a Boy Scout leader, helping to mentor and guide young people while teaching the values of responsibility, character, and service. He believed in investing in the next generation and took pride in seeing others succeed.

Benjamin never met a stranger. For much of his life, he was known as the life of the party, bringing laughter, joy, and energy wherever he went. His warm personality, quick wit, and genuine love for people made him a cherished friend to many. In his later years, Benjamin found his greatest happiness in spending time with family, joining loved ones on cruises and vacations, celebrating milestones, and simply being present for life’s special moments. The time he spent with those he loved became his greatest treasure.

Above all else, Benjamin loved his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and cherished great-grandfather. Affectionately known as “Dada Ben” to his grandchildren and lovingly called “Mr. Benny” by his wife, he was the heart of countless family gatherings and celebrations. His wisdom, humor, generosity, and unwavering love created memories that will be treasured for generations.

Benjamin deeply valued friendship and was blessed to share lifelong bonds with friends who became like family. For more than five decades, he maintained cherished friendships with Glenn Stith, Frank James, Sly Pope, and Dennis Bogger. Through life’s milestones, celebrations, challenges, and countless memories, their enduring brotherhood was a source of joy, laughter, support, and companionship. These friendships stood as a testament to Benjamin’s loyalty, character, and ability to form meaningful connections that lasted a lifetime.

Benjamin leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Sandra Timmons; his children, Keisha (Alvin), Bryan (Nikki), and Brandon (Glennis); his cherished grandchildren, Jamel, Amaryia, Kaniah, Jada, Bryan Jr., Jamal, and Brayden; his beloved great-grandchildren, Jakai and Kemoni; a host of bonus grandchildren whom he loved dearly; and a host of loving relatives, fraternity brothers, former colleagues, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by his presence.

Though our hearts mourn his passing, we celebrate a life filled with purpose, service, laughter, love, and devotion. Benjamin’s legacy lives on through the family he cherished, the communities he served, the young lives he mentored, and the countless people who were blessed to know him.

His memory will forever remain in our hearts.
