Mr. Barney Stilley, affectionately known as “Uncle Barney,” was born to the late Rosezena Stilley and Lehman Stilley (“BlackJack”). He attended Boys High School and later enlisted in the United States Army.
In 1973, Barney met Sharon, the love of his life, and they were married on October 18, 1980. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Stilley; his parents, Rosezena and Lehman Stilley; his mother-in-law, Minnie L. Roger-Saunders; his father-in-law, Frank Earl Saunders; his brothers, James C. Eden, John L. Quick, Eric Stilley, Alfred Stilley, and Alexander Simmons, affectionately known as “Sugar Daddy”; sister-in-laws; and all of his aunts and uncles.
Barney leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Barney Saunders (Jeannette) and Shawn Saunders (Tasheka); his daughter, Shaneequa Newkirk; his special granddaughter-daughter Janaya Thompson and special nephew-son, James Hunter and niece Sonya Hunter. He is also survived by his sister-in-laws, Mary Manns (Alfred), Lanita Boone (Donald) Phyllis Ellerbe-Stevenson, Alice Hunter, and Saquana Ellerbe; his brother in laws, Gerald Saunders (Pat), Deon Saunders (Yaya), and Stanley White; grandchildren—Jahsia, Emeeryah, Syon, Micah, Kingston, Kennedy, Dacien, and Diamond and a host of nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved.
Uncle Barney will be remembered for his service to his country, his quiet strength, and the deep love he held for his family. His life and legacy will forever live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love him.
