Mr. Arthur J. Dunn, Sr.

Mr. Arthur James Dunn, son of the late James Arthur Dunn and Louise Clayborn was born in Washington DC on September 11, 1926 and departed this earth to be with his Heavenly Father on November 17, 2019.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Arthur James Dunn, Jr., and grandson, Richard Arthur Dunn.

Arthur served three years in the U. S. Navy and after being honorably discharged gained employment at the Hampton Veteran’s Administration Medical Center where he retired after thirty-six years.  Art, as he was called, came out of retirement to support his wife, Billie Bailey Dunn, in her sales business.  He enjoyed staying busy and was very happy to assist his wife in her sales endeavors. Art stayed out of retirement and became employed by Langley Federal Credit Union where he worked for ten years. 

Art did not have many hobbies, but he enjoyed playing billiards and loved his family both of which he was extremely good at doing.  He loved, cared for and supported Billie Bailey Dunn, his wife of 71 years, in all her undertakings.  Her success was truly his success.  They loved attending their sons’ sporting events in North Carolina and together enjoyed traveling to visit their sons and their families in Washington DC, New Jersey, New York, and North Carolina. 

Art will be missed, and his memory cherished by his beloved wife, Billie Bailey Dunn, three sons, Charles (Carol) of Delaware, Billy (Belle) of North Carolina and Michael (Fiancé, Celestine White) of Virginia.  Seven grandchildren, Stephanie Dunn (Maryland), Charles, Jr. (Delaware), Eleanor Yarbrough (Gerald) of New Jersey, Bradford Dunn (Rianna), Belinda Dunn, Bertram Dunn, and Denelle Armstrong (Bobby) all of North Carolina. Four great grandchildren, Robert Yarbrough, Ella Grace Yarbrough, Carlton- Kennedy Martin and Autumn McKnight. A host of nieces, nephews and special family friend, Denise Dunn.

Viewing for Mr. Arthur J. Dunn, Sr. will be held from noon until 5:00 p.m. Friday, November 22, 2019 at C.C. Carter Funeral Home, Inc.

Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Third Baptist Church Hampton, 1214 Victoria Blvd. Hampton, VA. by Pastor John Kenney.

Entombment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
