Mr. Anthony Richards Obituary

Mr. Anthony Lewis Richard’s life was brought to sunset and called into eternal rest on June 25, 2025.  Anthony was born in Newport News, Va., to the late Brenda Marie Richards on August 1, 1973.  He was blessed to be raised by his late maternal Grandmother Gladys Mae Saddler, whom he cherished.

Anthony accomplished so much in his lifetime.  He was an avid sports fan, with football being his passion.  He was a faithful Commanders fan.  Anthony began his football career playing at the old Doris Miller Community Center in Newport News, Va., where he first discovered he was good at throwing a football.

Anthony attended Warwick High School (1992) Newport News, Va., where he played as quarterback on the football team.  After high school, Anthony was asked to attend the Apprenticeship School at the Newport News Shipyard, where he also played football for a short period for their league before he decided he wanted to attend a four-year college. Anthony always had a made-up mind on what, and how he wanted to do something.   Once he shared his desires, his family found a way to support and be positive about his decisions.

Anthony attended University of Virginia at Wise (Clinch Valley College), where he received a Bachelor of Science, Business Administration: Finance degree (1997).  Anthony was also inducted into Clinch Valley’s Athletic Hall of Fame (2009) for “Career record holder for Punt Return Yards, Yards Per Return and Touchdowns. Graduated as career record holder in Pass Receptions and Career yardage, 1996. Football Gazette- Honorable Mention All-American, 1996”.  After finishing college Anthony joined the United States Army where he served in the Operation IRAQI Freedom war.  During his time in the Army, Anthony received many military award recommendations.  Anthony received his honorable discharge service status with the rank of sergeant (SGT.)  After Anthony completed his military tour, he migrated to Woodbridge, Va.

At the time of Anthony’s departure, he was a Financial Analyst for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Washington, D.C.  He had a passion for the work he performed and enjoyed the people he worked with.

Anthony had a special gift of putting feelings to music.  He was a Rap artist known by the name “Arson”.  He often recorded music with his brother Monroe.  Anthony being the Rapper while Monroe sang.  Their last performance together was held at a Juneteenth festival in Annapolis, Maryland on June 21, 2025.

The most important aspect of Anthony’s life was his journey with Christ.  Anthony openly expressed his belief in the Son of God and his thankfulness for what He had allowed him to accomplish.  Anthony’s life was used to encourage and assist others.  Anyone who knew him experienced his generosity and willingness to help.  He always presented you with a smile and a hearty laugh that was contagious.  Anthony is survived by his brothers Monroe Saddler, Norton Richards (Brandi), Keith Saddler.  His sisters, Maurice Augburn, Veronica Burnett (Terry – deceased), as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he always went out of his way to express his love for.  Anthony was also a very loyal friend to many.

We as a family will miss Anthony more than anyone could ever express with words.  We know where he is, and those who die in Christ will see him again.

It is the desire of the Richards family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers
