Minister Earl Dennis Woods
On July 3, 2020 Minister Earl Dennis Woods, loving husband and father, was called home to his eternal rest at the age of 62.
Earl was born on October 19, 1957 in Portsmouth, Virginia to Lucy and David Woods. He graduated from John Yeates High School in 1976 and went on to serve in the United States Army. On July 4, 1986, he married Alfreda. Together, they raised their children, Henry, Sterling and Krystal in Portsmouth, Virginia. Following his service in the Army he continued his education while earning an Associates Degree in Psychology from Norfolk State University. In 2010 Earl met his love Lori, and the two got married on July 12, 2012.
Earl was an avid fisherman, loved good food, and truly enjoyed being surrounded by his family and friends. He had a passion for entertaining and was known for hosting the best fish fries and carb feast around. He enjoyed playing board games and never hesitated to remind his competitors of his winning record. To know Earl was to know his clever sense of humor, quick wit, infectious smile, and generous spirit.
Earl enjoyed the ministry and was licensed at Bethany Baptist Church, Chesapeake, Virginia, where he played an active role in the church community. He was known for both his ability to captivate an audience with a powerful word, and for his impeccable fashion sense. No matter the occasion, Earl was sure to be the sharpest dressed person in the room. Upon moving to Hampton, Virginia, Earl and his family united with New Hope Baptist Church, September 11, 2016, under the leadership of Dr. Christopher C. Carter, Sr.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, David & Lucy Woods; brothers, Daily Woods and Melvin Woods and sisters, Nettie Carolyn Eaton and Sadie Mae Clay.
