Evangelist Rebecca Armstrong Obituary

On Sunday, Oct 3rd, 2021, God dispatched an angel from Heaven to escort Evangelist Rebecca Wells Armstrong to the gates of Heaven.

Rebecca, also affectionately known as “Dike” was born February 3, 1931, was born to the late Dea. P.D., Sr and Sarah Wells. She was educated in the Isle of Wight County School System. She attended and participated in many of the Isle of Wight Academy Class reunions.

As a child, Rebecca accepted Christ in her life and was baptized at First Gravel Hill Baptist Church. Considered her home church, Rebecca attended services through her childhood and as an adult, attended many revivals and special services throughout the years. She looked forward to the many Homecomings, Picnics, and Church Anniversary services.

On August 6, 1948, Rebecca married the Paul S. Armstrong, Sr. They were blessed with 5 children.

God called her in the ministry early on in 1977 and, she was licensed to Evangelize God’s Holy Word, April 1977. Ordained April 1980, God blessed her and Paul, with the Armstrong Ministries where they ministered to the elderly in nursing and convalescent centers. She ministered in the Coliseum Park Nursing (Hampton), Hampton Sentara Nursing Home, Huntington Medic-Home (Newport News) Walter Reed Nursing Home (Gloucester), and Riverside Convalescent Home (Smithfield). Through this ministry, countless seniors accepted Christ and secured their place in God’s Kingdom. An obedient and virtuous instrument for God, Evangelist Rebecca was true to her calling and shared what God gave her in many churches, and wherever she went. 

Evangelist Rebecca’s church affiliations include Messiah Baptist Church where she served as Associate Minister for 20+ years. She served as the Senior Class Teacher in the Sunday School many years and conducted Bible Study for the Adult and Youth Classes. She was an avid supporter for the Church’s Program especially, the Youth Department and assisted with many of their projects. More recently, Evangelist Rebecca attended the Wakefield Christian Outreach Center until her health began to decline. 

Rebecca is preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, the late Reverend Paul S. Armstrong, Sr., son, Paul S. Armstrong, Jr., her sisters, Jacqueline “Tibb” Goodwin, Rev. P.D. “Peter Boy” Wells, Jr., and Esterine “Katy” Smith. She leaves to cherish her memory, one sibling, Ernestine “Teen” Slade, her children, Dano, Sr., Donna, Becky and Louis, a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews both local, In New Orleans, LA., and throughout the United States. Also left to cherish her memory are 19 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and 5 great, great grandchildren.   

 

Services for Evangelist  Armstrong will be held 11:00a.m. Friday,, October 8, 2021 at First Gravel Hill Baptist Church 5230 Old Stage Hwy. Smithfield, VA 23430.

 

Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
