Elder Jonas Watson, Sr. Obituary

Elder Jonas Alexander Watson, Sr. transitioned into eternal glory on April 15, 2026, a life well-lived now crowned with everlasting peace.

Born on January 14, 1984, in Hampton, Virginia, to Dr. William Watson, III and Lady Gayle Watson, Jonas was destined for a life of purpose and impact. From an early age, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, anchoring his life in faith that would guide every step of his journey. His passion for music emerged in his youth, where his creativity and leadership were already evident as he formed his first musical group, Jonas and Company.

Elder Jonas faithfully served as Minister of Music at Love and Hope Church under the leadership of his father, Pastor William Watson III. Each Sunday, he ushered congregations into a profound worship experience, seamlessly blending his gifts as a self-taught musician, vocalist, and worship leader. Mastering the keyboard, guitar, and drums, his sound was more than music—it was ministry. Notably, Jonas never sought compensation for his talents; his service was a pure offering of devotion, given faithfully and wholeheartedly.

Beyond music, Elder Jonas was a powerful and insightful preacher of the Word. His sermons, especially those centered on Kingdom Building, were rich in depth, meticulously prepared, and spiritually transformative. He challenged minds, stirred hearts, and inspired lives through messages that resonated far beyond the sanctuary walls.

Academically gifted and athletically exceptional, Jonas graduated with highest honors from Bethel High School in 2002, where he excelled as a standout athlete in both football and track. Among his many accolades, he earned MVP honors for his remarkable performance in a defining football game against Hampton High School. His excellence continued at the collegiate level, where he thrived as a formidable defensive lineman. Standing 6'2" and weighing 220 pounds, he combined strength, discipline, and intelligence on and off the field. He graduated from the College of William and Mary in 2005 with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, supported by a full academic and athletic scholarship.

Jonas’s greatest pride and joy were his sons, Jaylen and Jonas Jr., whom he cherished deeply. In time, he found his soulmate in Sabrina Genowski, the love of his life. Their union was one of partnership, faith, and shared vision. Together, they built a life in Suffolk, Virginia, where they co-founded and successfully operated the Caesar Pence trucking company, a testament to their dedication and entrepreneurial spirit.

A devoted husband, loving father, and pillar of his community, Jonas was known for his boundless generosity. He gave freely to those in need, particularly the homeless and those facing hardship, embodying the compassion and love he so deeply believed in. His life was a reflection of unwavering faith, service, and integrity.

He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Deaconess Alberta Watson and Deacon William Watson, Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Sabrina Watson; his beloved sons, Jaylen Romero and Jonas Watson, Jr.; his sisters, Tiffany Locke-Esquivel (Juan), Bridget Moore (Sterling), and Dr. Hope Watson; along with a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, a surrogate Godmother Mrs. Robin Slye, extended family, and countless lives touched by his presence.

It is the desire of the Watson family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
