Dr. Glennie Thompson Obituary

Apostle Glennie K. Thompson, the co-founder of Mountain Moving Ministries Inc. of Hampton, Va., went to her eternal rest on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at the age of 86. A long-time Hampton resident, she was born on March 15, 1938, in Halifax, N.C. to the late Rev. Alonia Knight and Ruthie Mabry Knight and was the youngest of eight siblings.

Apostle Thompson was raised with a strong family foundation of faith and education, and as a result pursued her talent of teaching through a Bachelor of Arts Degree, Master of Education and Advance Study in Administration from William Paterson University in Wayne, N.J. She served in the Paterson, N.J. education system for many years, culminating in a role as special education reading coordinator. It was in New Jersey where she met her beloved husband, the late Courtland R. Thompson. They ultimately settled in Morris Plains, N.J., where they were known for hosting large family and friend gatherings. They also loved to travel.

When the Thompsons retired more than 30 years ago, they moved to the Howe Farms community in Hampton, where they took much pride in their home and garden decor, and continued their social gatherings. Although she was the youngest sibling, Apostle Thompson took a lead role in making sure her family stayed connected through reunions and other activities. She also began her ministry work. In 1989, she heeded the call to teach and preach the Gospel, and was anointed with the gifts of healing. She received a Master of Theology and Master of Divinity from Deeper Life School of Theology, an affiliate of Beacon University of Theology, Columbus, Ga.; and a Doctorate of Ministry from Beacon University School of Theology, Columbus, Ga. She organized The Free Women in Christ-Hampton Roads Chapter and served as an Associate Minister at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Hampton and Assistant Pastor at World Victory in Newport News, Va. Heeding the call to lead their own congregation, the Thompsons birthed Mountain Moving Ministries in 2001. She worked as Pastor until November 8, 2003, when God anointed her to the Office of Apostle. She has ministered in the Bahamas, throughout the United States and in the Upper Room in Israel. One of her ministry callings was to mentor countless ministers and laypersons in their spiritual walk. She loved to pray over people, and constantly reminded everyone to give glory to God for all of the good things He’s done. She was a wise giver of advice – it was not unusual for her to call family and friends with various tips on health, food, relationships, and financial matters.

Apostle Thompson was married to her late husband for almost 54 years. She was also predeceased by five siblings. She leaves to cherish her memory daughter and son Gwen Cofield and Spencer Cofield, Jr. (children of a deceased sister); sisters Rachel Williams, Liz Chase, and Ann Mask; brothers-in-law Wilfredo Camacho and Spencer Cofield, Sr. (Betty); special nieces Charlene Odom (Robert), Monique Howard, Keiya Clay, Kinya Curry (Lawrence) and Nefertiti Williams; special nephews Kenneth Chase, Kelvin Chase, and Stevie Williams; many godchildren, including Gwen Newton, Dee Jacobs, Barbara McCalla, and Billy Stallings; and a host of other family and friends.

Apostle Thompson’s Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Mountain Moving Ministries, 2203 Andrews Boulevard, Hampton, VA 23663. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m.; and the service will begin at 11:00 a.m. The entombment will occur immediately after the service at the Hampton Memorial Gardens 155 Butler Farm Road, followed by a repast.
