Dr. George Thompson Obituary

Dr. George Calvin Thompson was born May 4, 1958 in Norfolk, VA to the late Bishop George W. Thompson and Mother Mittie J. Thompson.  He was called him home to be with the Lord on February 18, 2021.

Prior to his demise, he received his former education from the Norfolk Public Schools.  Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he received several awards and acknowledgements for his outstanding services.  After his service to the U.S. Army, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service where he served for many years.

While in the U.S. Postal Service, he met the love of his life, Lady Donna Lynn Sherrod-Thompson and to that union, they were blessed with two children, the late Dernesha L. Sherrod (Tessa), and Elder Calvin E. Thompson.

He pursued a career in Culinary Arts, where he worked for several corporations and franchises as a fry cook, kitchen chef, and kitchen manager He worked for companies such as Shoney’s, Golden Coral, Outhouse, IHOP and many more.

Upon retirement, he furthered his education.  He enrolled in the Norfolk Theological Seminary and College where he received his Bachelors of Arts, Master of Divinity and Doctor of Divinity degrees.

He received Christ at an early age where he attended   the First Church of Christ Holiness (USA), Norfolk, Virginia.  He served in many roles concerning the Eastern Diocese and the Eastern Diocese Youth Conferences.  He accepted the call to Ministry and was licensed under the leadership of his father, then Dr. George W. Thompson.  Upon his father’s consecration to the sacred office of Bishop, his father’s first act was to elevate his son to the title of Elder.  After his father’s passing, he assumed the office pastor of the Gospel Light Outreach Ministries in October of 2014, where he remained pastor until his demise.
