Dr. Eugene Bynum, Jr., born October 23, 1971, in Hampton, Virginia, entered into eternal rest on September 3rd, 2025 after a life devoted to faith, family, and service.
The beloved son of Eugene Bynum, Sr. and Helen D. Bynum, Eugene (aka: Chucky) was a bright light whose presence inspired all who knew him. His unwavering commitment to God shaped the way he lived, loved, and led.
Minister Bynum was a faithful member of the Glorious Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Newport News, where he remained devoted until his passing. He enriched his spiritual foundation by studying at Canan Theological Seminary where he achieved his Doctorate, equipping himself to serve with wisdom, humility, and steadfast devotion.
Above all, Chucky was a loving father who found his greatest joy in his children. He leaves behind Shante Scott (and spouse), Nani Israel (and husband, Sagiv), Tovia Bynum, Eugene Bynum III (and spouse), and Elijah Bynum. His legacy lives on in their lives and in the values he instilled in them.
He is also survived by his beloved sister, Helen J. Bynum and spouse, aunts Cloanne Kight and Verda Cooper, uncles Dallas and James Cogdell, and a host of extended family and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Minister Bynum will be remembered as a man of deep compassion, quiet strength, and unshakable faith. His life reflected the scripture he lived by: “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7)
Though he has departed this earthly life, his impact will continue to shine brightly in the lives of those he touched.
Military honors for Dr. Bynum will be held after the service in the chapel.
It is the desire of the Bynum family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
The family of Dr. Eugene Bynum Jr. has entrusted his final care to C. C. Carter Funeral Home.
