Dr. Brenda McIntyre-Odoms

Dr. Brenda McIntyre-Odoms wife of Mr. Jimmy Odoms and a member of First Baptist Church Denbigh.Newport News, VA. And former Principal at Christopher Kraft Elementary School, Hampton, VA. Transitioned on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Duke University Hospital Durham, N.C.

Dr. Brenda Elizabeth McIntyre-Odoms was born on October 8, 1967 in Williamsburg, Va.   After graduating from Denbigh High School, Brenda pursued and obtained an undergraduate and graduate degree from Hampton University.  She met Jimmy while in graduate school, and they wed and remained together until she departed this life. 

                  After her completion of college Brenda began her tenure with Hampton City Schools as a teacher at Booker Elementary School.  She, then, continued her studies at George Washington University in Washington, DC, where she received an Ed.S and then Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University  in Blacksburg, Virginia, where she received her Ph.D.  It was during her quest to further her education that she served as Assistant Principal for John B Cary, Samuel P Langley, A.W.E Bassette, and Captain John Smith Elementary.   She later served as Principal of Paul S Burbank and Christopher C Kraft Elementary.

            Throughout her life, Brenda was a trailblazer, earning numerous accolades and awards.  Although she had many titles throughout the years, her most treasured were husband, father, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, and mentor to many.  She utilized her God-given gift and love for education at First Baptist Church Denbigh, where she served as Chairperson for the Teacher’s Academy.  Due to her insatiable desire to be of service, she was also on the Usher board.

              On November 7, 2018, Brenda was called home to be with the Lord after an extended illness.  She leaves behind her husband, Jimmy Odoms; son, Jaymes Odoms; mother, Shirley Ashby McIntyre; father, Carl McIntyre (Anita); brother, Michael McIntyre; step brother, Aaron Springfield (Sherron); best friend, Felicia Valentine (Ronald); God-daughter, Lauren Tolliver; and a host of uncles, an aunt, several in-laws, a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Services for Dr. Odoms will be held noon Saturday, November 17, 2018 at First Baptist Church Denbigh 3628 Campbell Rd. Newport News, VA. by Dr. Ivan T. Harris. 

Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens.

The family will recieve friends from 5:00p.m. until 7:00p.m. Friday, November 16, 2018 at C.C.Carter Funeral Home, Inc.
