Deacon James Anthony Redd Sr. (affectionately known as BIG REDD) was born June 25, 1956 in Kings & Queens County, VA to the late Oscar N. Redd Sr. and Margaret M. Redd. He departed this life suddenly on Thursday, February 04, 2021 to receive the Crown of Life.
James retired from Newport News Shipbuilding & Drydock Company as a 1st Class Welder for thirty-three years. He was the Chairman Deacon for Emmanuel Chapel Church in Hampton, VA for twenty-five years. He was an avid of the Washington Redskins and the Atlantic Braves
James is preceded by death his father Oscar N. Redd Sr., his mother Margaret M. Redd, his brother Oscar N. Redd Jr. (living wife Lelia), and his daughter Eva Maria Redd.
James is survived by his lovely wife Sandra Renee Morant-Redd, his three caring children, Jamie Redd Moss (David Jr.) from Concord, NC, James Anthony Redd Jr. (Chanel) form Newport News, VA., and Justin Redd from Hampton, VA. His beautiful seven grandchildren, Joemel Redd, Ojimia Glover, Daezha Moss, Jazmen Moss, Hannah Redd, James A. Redd III, and Gabrielle Redd. Five devoted siblings, Robert Redd (Mary)from Newport News, Rudy Redd Lipscomb (Arnick), Ricky Redd from Kings & Queens County, VA., Judy Bullock (Tyrone) from Petersburg, VA., and Tony Redd (Sandra) from King George. To his four adored godchildren, Michael Carroll, Tiffany Powell, Kyra Pulley, and Aaliyah Brown. To the acknowledgement of his in-laws Chris J. Morant Sr., (Lena), Ann Stephenson, Caroline Brooks, Jeanette Morant, Kim Morant DeWalt, Kay Morant Norman (Charles), and Carl Morant (Deseree), and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A walk through viewing for Deacon Redd will be held from 6:00p.m. until 7:00p.m. at Emmanuel Chapel Church, 200 Hampton Roads Avenue, Hampton, VA.
Celebration of Life Service for Deacon Redd will be held Saturday, 10:00a.m February 13, 2021 at New Hope Baptist Church, Hampton, VA. by Dr. Chris Morant.
Internment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens
