CDR Darren Seth Williams transitioned Thursday, February 18, 2021 at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital, VA Beach, Virginia.
A native of Philadelphia, PA and 1984 graduate of Dobbins Area Vocational Technical High School, Commander Williams enlisted in the Navy’s Electrician’s Program in August 1984, where he quickly rose to the rank of Electricians Mate Second Class Petty Officer. Due to his outstanding performance, he was selected to the Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training (BOOST) and was commissioned in December 1992 via the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program at Prairie View A & M University, in Prairie View, TX, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology.
As a commissioned Naval Officer, Commander Williams served his country as an Intelligence Officer and specialized in Operational, Tactical and Photographic Intelligence.
Commander Williams’ operational assignments included tours at Carrier, Air Wing EIGHT, United States Southern Command, Defense Intelligence Agency, USS KITTY HAWK (CV-63), and United States Naval Forces Central Command.
After numerous assignments ashore, he concluded his Naval career at Navy and Marine Corps Intelligence Training Command in Dam Neck, VA in 2013.
Personal military decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), the Joint Service Commendation Medal (three awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), the Joint Service Achievement Medal (two awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award (two awards), the Navy Unit Commendation, the Navy Meritorious Commendation (two awards), the Navy Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Medal (two awards), the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Southwest Asia Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Armed Forces Service Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (five awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon (six awards), the NATO Medal (Yugoslavia), the NATO Medal (Balkans), the Navy Expert Rifleman Medal and the Navy Pistol Ribbon. Additionally, he earned the Navy Information Dominance warfare qualification.
Commander Williams retired from the Navy after 24 years of active-duty service in March 2013 and resided in Virginia Beach, VA.
Viewing for CDR Williams will be held two hours prior to the service from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 5, 2021 at New Hope Baptist Church.
Services for CDR Williams are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 5, 2021 at New Hope Baptist Church, 1415 Big Bethel Road, Hampton, Virginia. by Dr. Christopher C. Carter Sr.,
Interment with Navy Military Honors will be held at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia.
