SGT. James S. Johnson

On Thursday, August 30, 2018; SGT. James S. Johnson was called home to be with the lord. James “Jabo” Johnson was born on January 29, 1954 in Newport News, Virginia.

James graduated from Bethel High School and promptly began working at the Newport News Shipyard. He then joined the United States Army in 1977, serving 3 years active duty and 11 years reserves. James worked and retired at Eastern State Hospital after 28 years.

James was preceded in death by his mother, Wester Mae Johnson. 

He is survived by his father, Gustavus Johnson Sr. He leaves a son, Dante Travis (wife: Lydia and daughter: Aubrey). Grandson: Khalil (Dante). James also leaves a daughter, Jamica Langley (children: Denai Langley and Delando Langley Jr.). He leaves 6 brothers and 3 sisters, all living in Hampton and Newport News, Va.

Services for SGT. Johnson will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 6, 2018 at New Hope Baptist Church.1415 Big Bethel Rd. Hampton, VA. 

Interment will follow with military honors will follow at Albert G. Horton Memorial  Veterans  Cemetery. Suffolk, VA. 

Viewing will be held from noon until 6:00p.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at C.C.Carter Funeral Home, Inc.
