Ms. Yvonne Holmes transitioned on Tuesday ,January 30, 2018. At her home in Newport News, VA.Born to the late Hermon Jessuph and Estelle Eva Jessuph on June 7, 1943 in Mollusk, VA, Lancaster County.
At an early age Yvonne accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized into the fellowship of Queen Esther Baptist Church in Lancaster County Va. Yvonne graduated from Brookvale High School in June 1962 and later graduated from Thomas Nelson Community College in the field of Sociology where she received numerous awards. Yvonne married John Albert Holmes III on June 30,1962. To this wonderful union was born her daughters: Cassandra Williams and Carla Holmes of Newport News, VA.
Yvonne was a member of Ivy Baptist Church of Newport News, VA, where she served as an organist and a member of the church choir. Yvonne later joined Mount Gilead Baptist Church where she served as a Missionary and a member of the church choir. Yvonne was also the leader of the benevolence ministry at the Bladen Building where she resided in Williamsburg.
She was a dedicated and compassionate social worker for her clients for over 25 years at the Hampton, VA Social Service Department.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories, one brother Captain-Doc John Jessuph and his wife, Evangelist Mary Jessuph, who cherished her as a sister; her former husband John Holmes III; two devoted daughters: Cassandra M. Williams (Edward Williams Jr.) and Carla M. Holmes Golden; and her goddaughter Marie Hayes. She also leaves to cherish her memories her grandchildren: Carlethia, Camisha, Andrew, Carmella, Carnisha, Kashawn and Carleena. Services for Ms. Holmes will be held noon Wednesday, February 7, 2018 in the Chapel of C.C.Carter Funeral Home. Inc. by Rev. Brian Bullock.
Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Viewing for Ms. Holmes will be held from noon until 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at C.C.Carter Funeral Home. Inc.
