Ms. Mary Elizabeth Hockaday

Mary Hockaday was born March 1,1960 and transitioned on August 20, 2019 in Reidsville, NC. Mary was born in Newport News, VA., to Thomas Hockaday and Estey Hockaday.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Estey Hockaday, her sisters Pamela Hockaday and Deloris Hockaday, also known as "Dee", her brothers Willie Hockaday, Robert Hockaday, Herbert Hockaday also known as "Duke", and Charles Hockaday.

Mary leaves behind her two sisters Lila Hockaday and Ida Cobb (Jackie). Her three brothers Theodore Hockaday (Mary), Daniel Hockaday and Leroy Hunter. Mary also leaves behind her loving son Hison Hockaday, her neices Jaayla and Janiere and her nephews Kevin Diggs also known as "KT" and Jaquea who she loved dearly.

Mary was a resident of Reidsville, NC and on January 15, 2017 she became a faithful member of Jerusalem UHCA after worshipping with them for over three years before making a commitment to become apart of the Jerusalem UHCA family. Mary never missed a Sunday of worship. She faithfully attended Sunday School, Bible Study and she enthusiastically participated in various church activities. Mary was excited about her relationship with God and her Jerusalem church family. Mary’s presence will be greatly missed.

Mary was employed with Workforce Working for Albad and in 2017 she decided to further her education by taking developmental courses at Rockingham Community College. Mary’s decision to further her education brought about a new realm of excitement in her life.

Mary loved her family dearly. She also leaves behind a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and her dearest most special friends Gail Jones and Edna Ware also known as "Pudding". Mary will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. 

A viewing for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Hockaday will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 from noon until 5:00 p.m. at C.C. Carter Funeral Home, Inc. and 2 hours prior to the service from 9:00 a.m until 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at New Hope Baptist Church.

Services for Ms. Mary Elizabeth Hockaday will be held immediately following the viewing on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at New Hope Baptist Church, 1415 Big Bethel Road Hampton, VA. by Pastor M.E. Jackson of Jerusalem UHCA, Reidsville, NC.

Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
