Ms. Lavonia Lynn Carpenter

Ms. Lavonia Lynn Carpenter, age 58, of Newport News, VA, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Riverside Regional Memorial Center in Newport News, Virginia.

Her memorial service will be held at C.C. Carter Funeral Home, 3314 Roanoke Avenue, Newport News, VA, 23607 on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 12 o’clock noon. The family will receive guests immediately following the memorial at 14204 Deloice Crescent, Newport News, VA 23602.

 Lavonia Lynn Carpenter was born in Brooklyn, New York to the late Virginia Williams and Jimmy Carpenter on January 11, 1961. She graduated from Beach Channel High School in Far Rockaway, Queens, NY as an honor student.  She attended York College for two years and worked as a security guard for some time before obtaining a job with Verizon Telephone Company. Upon moving to Virginia, she resumed working as a security guard until her health no longer allowed her to continue working. Lavonia enjoyed spending time with family and friends; cooking meals for everyone; helping others; and had a wonderful sense of humor, even during illness. She was known for her generosity, even during times she had very little.

 Lavonia is preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Williams. She is survived by one brother: Efrem Carpenter of Brooklyn, NY; two daughters: Brandi Carpenter of Newport News, VA and Britni Carpenter of Concord, NC; one son: Xavier Boyd of Concord, NC; one grand-son: Tyquan Danzine of Concord, NC; her “grand-dog” Rocky, of Newport News, VA.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who expressed condolences, offered prayers and support – emotionally and financially during this difficult time. Special friends and thanks to: Maritza, Leshawn, Yvonne, Barbara, Tushawn, Margaret, Keisha, and Erica. 

A memorial service for Mrs. Lavonia Carpenter will be held noon. Saturday, March 16, 2019 at C.C. Carter Funeral Home, Inc. 3314 Roanoke Ave Newport News, VA 23607.
