Ms. Ella Rose Bellamy, 70, gained her wings of victory and soared into glory on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Affectionately known as “Rose” or “Sis Ella” by her sisters, she was born and raised in Hampton, VA to the late Odyssee Shipman and Cloratine Harrell on February 13, 1949. Ella was preceded in death by her son Kareen Bellamy and two brothers, Donald Bellamy and David Bellamy.
Ella attended Hampton City Schools and worked various jobs. She enjoyed her family and watching Western television shows, scary movies, the cooking channel and any channel that was airing a tennis match. Her hobbies were doing puzzles and knitting.
She was a very nurturing, caring and compassionate person who had an abundant love for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her family. She was a great listener and was always interested in whatever was going on in the lives of her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She was a very soft-spoken, private person that didn’t believe in drama or confusion, however her family knew that she was always there for them to be a listening ear and discuss their problems. Her famous saying to these conversations was, “Oh well! You will be alright.”
Cherishing her memories are her three children, Katrina Bellamy-Turner of Hampton, VA, James Bellamy and Jamalh Bellamy (Demetrius) of Newport News, VA; three sisters, Elizabeth Mitchell (Rudolph), Louise Bellamy, and Odessa Hawkins (Frederick) all of Hampton, VA; eight grandchildren: Malica, Tyshema, Jamel, JaKayla, Emonyae, Jamalh, Deztanie and DeZhana; and three great-grandchildren, Azzurae, De’Andre and Khyor; and Father of her children, James Griffin. A host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She will be missed by many.
