Mrs. Sandra E. Sellers Ricks

Mrs. Sandra Sellers Ricks was born November 5, 1948 to Willie Jerome Sellers and the late Ruth Sellers in Newport News, VA.  She was the youngest of four children.

On, Tuesday, February 20, 2018 after battling an ongoing illness Sandra peacefully transitioned from this life into eternal rest.

Sandra received her formal education in the Newport News public school system and graduated from George Washington Carver High school in 1967.  She continued her education at Hampton Institute where she earned an Associates in Business degree.  After earning her degree, Sandra worked as a receptionist at the Medical office of Dr. Simpson and the VA Hospital in Hampton, VA. 

In her early 20’s Sandra married William Thomas Ricks, Jr.  Together William and Sandra raised two sons Terrence and Jullian Ricks.  Sandra shared a special bond with her sons and dedicated her life to them.

Sandra accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age.  She faithfully served at Mt. Calvary United Fellowship Outreach of Newport News, VA for many years.  As a young woman Sandra was called to preach the gospel and was known as a gifted singer and prophetic voice in her church.    Sandra also enjoyed singing in the church choir and oversaw the Women’s ministry.  Sandra had a close relationship with several young people in the church known as “The Posse”.  They were known for attending worship services in coordinated church attire. They believed in worshipping the Lord in the beauty of holiness.  Sandra was also known in the community for her service in the Covenant Sisters Prayer team. 

Sandra was preceded in death by her Mother Ruth Sellers, Sister, Dr. Anna L. Mathews.   She leaves to cherish her memory; her Father, Bishop Willie Jerome Sellers (Daisy Sellers); two sons, Terrence Ricks (Felicia Swain-Ricks), Jullian Ricks (Carolyn Ricks); four brothers, Jerome Sellers (Louise Sellers); Elder Robert Sellers (Mazie Sellers); Timothy Fleming;  Arnold Ray Ellis; two sisters, Elizabeth Forbes, Florine Ahmad; seven grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

The family will be receiving guest and her son's Pastor Julian Ricks Church the Church of Destiny 629 79th St. Newport News, VA. 23605. Thursday, February 22, 2018 , Friday, February 23, 20018 from 6:00p.m. until 8:00p.m. and Monday, February 26, 2018 and Tuesday, February 27, 2019 from 6:00p.m until 8:00p.m. 

Services for Mrs. Ricks will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2018 at New Hope Baptist Church  1415 Big Bethel Rd. Hampton, VA. Dr. Christopher C. Carter Sr., - Pastor - Bishop Jerome Rogers, Eulogist.

Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Viewing for Mrs. Ricks will be held from noon until 6:00p.m. Wednesday, February, 28, 2018 at C.C.Carter Funeral Home. Inc.
