Mrs. Rebecca Cypress transitioned Thursday October 18, 2018 at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News, VA.
Mrs. Rebecca Lee Jones-Cypress, daughter of the late Andrew and Gertrude Jones, was born March 19, 1949 in Charles City, VA.
Rebecca was known to all as "Miss Minnie". She attended Charles City Public Schools. As a young adult she attended Little Elam Baptist Church in Charles City, VA.
Minnie was a people person, she had the ability to charm people from many different walks of life. She had the ability to turn lemons into lemonade and to disburse freely and appropriately. As a younger women she had, and knew the tangible thigs of life but as she grew older and wiser she learned to appreciate what was needed most. Minnie took on the role as mother figure after the death of her eldest sibling. She was a homebody but enjoyed good company. She invited everyone to her home while making them feel right at home. To Minnie there was no such thing as a stranger. All to often she would take in people who was in need. Minnie loved as a young woman to decorate her home. Among many of her favorite things to do, she also enjoyed flowers, football, nostalgic stories, fishing and playing cards. She was highly motivated by education and profusely encouraged her grandkids and many others to pursue furthering education.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her mother and father Gertrude and Andrew Jones; Floyd Green (husband); Robert Cypress (husband) Lillian Brown (sister); Andrew Jones Jr (brother); Pauline Bordeaux (sister), Janice Brown (sister), and Henry Stewart (special friend). She leaves to cherish her memories , two children Floyd Green Jr. (Shimorra) Jonesboro, Ga., Talaya Green Newport News, VA., four grandkids Floyd Green lll, Atlanta Ga; Tamara Stringer Malik) Clarksville, TN; Rebecca Ward Newport News, VA.; Dante Ward Newport News, VA.; three sisters Diana Brown Newport News, VA.; Connie Alexander (Mack) Newport News, VA.; Suzette Brown South Hill, VA; two brothers Thomas Jones Sr. (Rosa) Charles City, VA.; Clarence Brown Norfolk, VA.; a special friend Johnny Reed, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Services for Mrs. Rebecca Cypress will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday October 25, 2018 at Gates Of Praise 3116 Kecoughtan Rd. Hampton, VA.
Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park
Mrs. Rebecca Cypress will lie in state two hours prior to service.
