Mrs. Margauritte T. Mizell

Mrs. Margauritte T. Mizell wife of Mr. James Mizell and retired Registered Nurse transitioned peacefully Monday, February 11, 2019 at Sentara CarePlex Hospital in Hampton, VA.

Margauritte Thomas Mizell was born in the Bronx, NY on May 1, 1944 to Clem Thomas and May J. Thomas.  Margauriette had two siblings, Mildred Thomas and Clem Thomas, who preceded her in death.  

As a child Margauritte relocated to Newport News, VA where she was educated in Newport News Public Schools.  Graduating from Huntington High School in 1962.  Continuing education at Hampton University, formally known as Hampton Institute, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. 

Carrying her bachelor’s, she was employed at Riverside Hospital, Norfolk General and Sentara Hampton General.  Nursing was Margauritte’s life.  She loved it so much that she also taught nursing at Hampton University, Thomas Nelson Community College, and New Horizon.  After years of dedicated service in nursing, Margauriette also, enjoyed catering and baking goods for the community.

On November 11, 1962, Margauritte married the love of her life, James L. Mizell. 

Margauritte leaves to celebrate her well-lived life, her husband, James; four sisters, Clementine Thomas, Mary Terry, Gilder James (Chris), Savinia Neal; two brothers, Harry Thomas, and Olittmond Thomas; a host of nieces, nephews, other loved ones and friendsIt is the desire of the Mizell family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Services for Mrs. Margauritte T. Mizell will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 18, 2019 at Gethsemane Baptist Church 5405 Roanoke Ave, Newport News, VA 23605 by Dr. Dwight Riddick.

Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens.

A viewing will held from noon to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 17, 2019 at C.C. Carter Funeral Home, Inc. 3314 Roanoke Ave, Newport News, VA 23607.

The family of the late Mrs. Margauritte T. Mizell has entrusted her final care to the staff at C.C. Carter Funeral Home, Inc.
