Mrs. Magnolia Graves Obituary

Mrs. Magnolia W. Graves was born September 13, 1927 to the late William Henry and Viola Gee Wilkins.

 

She was raised in Tillery, NC and later moved to Newport News, VA. She confessed Christ at Wesley Grove UCC where she remained faithful until her health failed.

 Mrs. Magnolia Graves was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Graves, three daughters, Doris V. Brown, Jeanett J. Walker, and Janice M. Harmon, three sisters, Louise Titus, Emma Eason, Ola Mills, and Susie Woods, and three brothers, Willie Wilkins, Walter Wilkins, and Edward "Ed" Wilkins.

Magnolia attended North Carolina Public Schools until moving to Newport News, where she began her profession as a seamstress at Gloria Manufacturing.

She enjoyed bowling in various leagues throughout the Hampton and Newport News area. One of her favorite past times was gardening. Her biggest passion most of all was caring for others. In her words, “She never met a stranger!” 

 

She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Robin Graves-Carter (Terence), three siblings Alvin Wilkins, Mildred Wilkins, Ozzie Wilkins, grandchildren, Rodney Jones (Kimberly), Thomas E. Harmon V., David J. Walker Jr., Davida W. Chapman (Keith), nine great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. Also, a very special son-in-law, David J. Walker Sr., and a host of nieces and nephews. 

 

The family would like to express sincere thanks to Dr. Melvin Green and staff, and Riverside Adult Day Care, and the Sentara Hospice staff for their compassionate care.

 

Services for Mrs. Graves will be held noon Friday, January 4, 2019 at Wesley Grove United Church Of Christ. 2308 Roanoke Ave, Newport News, VA. by Pastor Antonio L. Newsome.

 

Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens. 

 

Viewing for Mrs. Graves will be held from noon until 5:00p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2019 at C.C.Carter Funeral Home, Inc. 

 

It is the desire of the Graves family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
