Mrs. Joyce Alice Ricks Bellamy

Joyce Alice Ricks Bellamy of Hampton, VA was born September 29, 1950 in Southampton County, Virginia to Annie Mae and Joe Ricks. She started her formal education at Southampton County Public School System until relocating to New York, where she finished her education. She then enrolled in Nursing School to become an LPN. She worked at Dumont Nursing Home, New Rochelle, NY from 1974 until her retirement in 2013.

On January 30,1971 she was united in Holy matrimony to Thomas Bellamy and became the parents to two girls Lakesha Bellamy and Sonya D. Bellamy. Joyce Bellamy attended Zion Evangelical Baptist Church, New Rochelle, NY Under the leadership of Dr. Rev. Roland Lee Taylor. As a member, she served on the Usher Board and as a Deaconess. Joyce later joined Mt. Zion Christian Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Peter Wilson, where she served as a Pastor’s Aid, attended Bible Study and the Adult Sunday School class.

Her faithfulness and dedication were not only for her children and church family but transcended to everything and every person she committed herself to. JB or Bellamy (as she was affectionately known as) was admired even more because of her genuine love and caring for all. She was a second mother to some, a loyal friend to many, and an all-around classy lady! On Wednesday June 5th, 2019, God called Joyce Alice Ricks Bellamy home.

Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Lakesha Bellamy of Mt. Vernon, NY, Sonya D. Bellamy Duncan of Tampa, FL, 3 grandsons, 2 great granddaughters; brothers, Algie (Berta) Ricks, Newport News, VA; Bennie (Sue) Ricks, Hampton, VA; sisters, Irene Holeman of Sedley, VA; Dorothy Franklin of Georgetown, SC; Host of nieces, nephews, other relative and friends. Those who pre-deceased Joyce in death were her parents Annie Mae and Joe Ricks, a brother Willie Joe Ricks and a sister Inell Alston.

Services for Mrs. Joyce Bellamy will be held 12:00 p.m.  Saturday, June, 15, 2019 at Ivy Baptist Church, 50 Maple Ave, Newport News, VA 23607.

The viewing will take place at 11:00 a.m. 1 hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
