Mrs. Beatrice Bailey Obituary

On Friday, June 21, 2019 our beloved Beatrice peacefully entered into eternal rest. Her journey began here on earth May 9, 1933 in the Magruder section of York County, VA, to the late Mr. Charles and Mrs. Carrie Banks.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to John W. Bailey, Jr. on February 20, 1971.

Beatrice accepted Christ and joined Mt Pleasant Baptist Church at an early age.  She served God faithfully as a member of the Pastor’s Aide, Hospitality Committee, Gospel Choir, Senior Choir and the Missionary Society. She served God by serving man.   While staying in Hampton with her daughter she frequently visited Cornerstone Worship Center, Intl. where she was accepted as a part of the church family and was showered with love.  She spent time praising the Lord over the past few weeks, frequently bursting out in song “We are Climbing Jacob’s Ladder and Jesus the Light of the World”.

Beatrice graduated from Bruton Heights School in 1950. She worked for Colonial Williamsburg, retiring after twenty-eight years of service.

“Bea” as she was fondly called, was a loving and kind person who considered others before herself. She always greeted you with a smile that would light up any room.  She was always ready to lend a helping hand no matter what the task.  In her younger years she loved bowling, and later on she loved road trips as she and John would jump in the car and head North at the drop of a hat.   She enjoyed cooking her infamous french toast, peach cobbler and sweet potato pies which were requested often by family and friends.

She was predeceased in death by her brothers, Leon Banks, and Lewis Banks. She leaves to cherish her memories her loving husband, John, her loving and devoted daughter Gail Banks-Taylor (Terry), her caring stepdaughter Melissa Jennings (Gene); her loving grandsons Morgan Taylor and Patrick Anderson-Taylor; loving granddaughters Ebony Jennings and Jada Jennings; and her sweet great-granddaughter Moriya Taylor. Her dear brother Lloyd Banks, Sr. (Harriett) and loving sister-in-law, Annette Banks. Her loving brother-in-law Warren Baily (Josephine). Her loving nieces and nephews Lovell, Sonya, Leslie (Dan), Gregory (Tara), Katrina (Stanley), Lloyd Jr., Robert (Cheryl), Katrina Bowman Banks and Lisa Scott Banks. Her loving and caring cousin Evelyn Brown whom she loved like a sister, her loving sister-in-law/friend Willnette Banks, her loving niece/daughter Lisa Potter, her loving adopted daughter Karen Darden and her children Bria and Michea (Victor) her loving adopted granddaughter & grandson, Allison and Shawn and their children Jay, Shae and Shane, her loving goddaughter Terronda Jenkins and a host of loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins other family members and friends.

She greatly loved ALL of her family and friends, and she spent special times of fellowship with the “Golden Girls”, Joan Jackson, Shirley Baker, Betty Phillips, and Corine Churchill.
