Mr. William Scott Obituary

God"s eyes are looking across the earth at this hour, looking for men who will surrender their all to the One who paid it all, men He will strongly support to step up with courage to be a powerful light and an influence in our generation ( 2 Chronicles 16:9).

Today we celebrate the life and legacy of William J. Scott, who lived a long and fruitful life doing what he loved, (interacting with people). He was born in Anderson County R5, South Carolina to proud parents, Ozia and Celia M. (Prince) Scott, who taught them Godly principles, by example, early in life.

He was the eldest of 6; Bettie A. Crosby, (deceased), Jahue D. Scott, Bobbie J. Scott, (deceased), Minnie Eliza (deceased), Gladys M. Scott; enlisted, rather than being drafted, into the military in 1953. After Basic Training in Fort Bliss, Texas, he rose quickly through the ranks before obtaining his rank of Sargeant Major.

He served in various NCO leadership positions, with distinction. Among places of service were: 250th Ordinance Detachment, Fort Sill, OK, Fort Shafter, Hawaii, Aviation mechanic training Fort Rucker, AL, 33rd Transportation Company Fort Ord, CA, 6th Transportation, Korea, 478th Flying Crane Company, Fort Benning, GA, 3rd Transportation Company Davison Army Airfield, Fort Belvoir, VA, 80th Transportation Company, Anchorage, Alaska, Hunter Army Airfield, Fort Stewart, GA, 179th Aviation Vietnam, 2nd Staff and Faculty Battalion, Fort Eustis, VA, Vietnam, Davison Army Airfield, Military District of Washington, Fort Belvoir, VA, 55th Aviation Company, Korea, and 3rd Staff and Faculty, Fort Eustis, VA. He retired in Febuary 1982, culminating a distinguished career of twenty six years of dedicated service.

While serving his 2nd tour at Davison, he met and married the love of his life, Flossie Annette Scott, February 14, 1976, blending two families. He's the biological parent of three, Deborah L. Burts, Alfred Cunningham, and William J. Scott, Jr., stepfather of four, Carmen Smith, Lafayette, Grady and Lanet Hall. Many, many Grands, fourteen great grands and two great, great, grands.

He joined First Baptist Church Denbigh, transferring membership from Welfare Baptist Church, Belton, SC, in 1990; served on serveral ministries, to include Ushers, Bread, Male Chorus, Kitchen Staff and a term as church Treasurer. He loved his Sunday School class, and was in regular attendence, until his health failed, but even then, he would attend on an every other Sunday basis. Loved working his cooking craft, in the church kitchen and did that until another episode of weakening diminished his stamina.

William transitioned quietly, in the arms of his loving spouse and is survived, by his wife and all the children except his daughter Deborah. He was a great example of love in action, exemplifying the mandate of God's command to love one another. He will be sorely missed.
