Mr. Robert Lee Holmes was born in Augusta, Ga to the late Jurdy Cody and Mildred Holmes Moss. He was the eldest of seven children
Robert attended Augusta Public Schools until family relocated to Virginia in the seventies. He took over the fatherly role helping his mother raise his siblings, working stressing to them how important education is for a better future.
In 1978, his great uncle Joseph Holmes assisted him in joining International Longshoremen Association, where he remained until his health failed. Robert and family ventured unto another business opening H & H Confectionery, a community market.
Robert had many hobbies. He was known as Mr. Fix It, doing mechanical, electrical and reconstruction. He also loved music.
Robert was preceded in death by his son Alonzo Holmes, mother Mildred Holmes Moss, father Jurdy Cody, sister Carlene Neal, brothers Darrell and Alonzo Lee and a niece Shaterra Neal. Robert is survived by his wife Mary; daughter Bianca (Stephon) Roleca; sons Antonio, Sir Lord and Winston; sisters Cynthia (Andre), Patricia (Sal), and Sylvia Whitaker; brother Kenneth Holmes; 10 grandchildren and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Servcies for Mr. Holmes will be held 11:00a.m. Friday, December 7, 2018 at New Hope Baptist Church 1415 Big Bethel Rd. Hampton, VA.
Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Viewing for Mr. Holmes will be held from noon until 5:00p.m. Thursday, December 6, 2018 at C.C.Carter Funeral Home, Inc.
