Mr. Oliver Stanley Tabb went peacefully into eternal rest onMonday, March 26. 2018.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years Doris, devoted brothers Langford and Cardell Tabb, sister Bernice Dorman, godsons Rahsaan and Rahman Tabb, grand-godchildren Darius, Samira, Milaan, Nassir, and Josiah Tabb,loving nieces, grand-nieces, nephews, grand-nephews and many steadfast family friends.
Oliver was born in Oak Grove, VA on January 12, 1930.
He was one of thirteen children raised the late George and Mary Tabb. He graduated from Bruton Heights High School in Williamsburg, VA and shortly thereafter enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War.
Oliver moved to New York after being honorably discharged from military service. He and his wife Doris made their home in Brooklyn, New York where they lived for over 30 years before relocating back to Williamsburg in 1992. He immediately became active in the community he loved so much.
Oliver was a life member of the NAACP in addition to serving as President of the York James City Williamsburg NAACP Branch 2005-2006, and was a contributing member of the Jamestown 400th Commemoration Committee. Before his illness Oliver was a patron of the arts and enjoyed an active, happy life traveling, going to art exhibits, museums, and music performances.
He loved attending family reunions, sports events with his brothers, and volunteering with civic organizations in various capacities.
The service to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, April 5. 2018 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 4002 Ironbound Rd.Williamsburg, VA. Viewing 12 to 1pm. Service 1 to 2pm.
Interment with Military Honors will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery 809 S. Henry Street, Williamsburg, VA.
