Matthew Leon Pinckney Jr. was born May 30, 1951 in Newport News, VA to the late Matthew and Clara Pinckney. 


Matthew Leon Pinckney Jr. departed this life on Friday February 1, 2019 at Riverside Regional Hospital in Newport News, VA.

 

He was one of six children. Matthew attended the Newport News Public School System and as a young man he worked at the International Long Shoreman Association Local 846 for over fifteen years.


Matthew leaves to cherish his memories two daughters Monique McEachern and Kimberly McEachern both of Newport News, VA.

 

Three brothers John T. Pinckney of Georgia; Tony Curry of Newport News, VA; and Rahindra Divine Mohabir of Hampton, VA; one loving sister Maximina Silvasantiago of Newport News, VA; Thomasina Lee of Newport News, VA; and Yolanda Harper of Hampton, Va.

 

Matthew also leaves behind seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins whose lives he has touched and he will always be remembered.


“GOD saw that you were tired, and he did what he thought best. He put his loving arms around you and whispered “Come and Rest”. Oh it broke my heart to lose you, But you did not go alone. For part of my heart went with you, the day God called you home.”

The family of the late Mr. Matthew Leon Pinckney Jr. wish to thank all of you for the support given to them during these difficult times. Matthew was a special part of our family and he will live on in our hearts.


A special thank you is extended to the Riverside Regional Hospital nurses and staff. 


A very heartfelt thank you is given to Thomasina Lee, Yolanda Harper, Jasmine McEachern, Janis Harris, and John Thomas Pinckney for their love, dedication, and support. Words can not express how much I appreciated you being there for me and never leaving my side.

 

A very special thank you and a big hug is extended to all of my grandchildren and great grandchildren who stayed by my side in the hospital.
 

Services will be held noon Monday, February 11, 2019 at New Hope Baptist Church 1415 Big Bethel Rd Hampton, VA 23666.

 

Interment will be 11a.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Hampton Memorial Gardens.

 

It is the desire of the Pinckney family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

 

A viewing will be held noon to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 10, 2019 at C.C. Carter Funeral Home, Inc. 3314 Roanoke Ave. Newport, News VA.

 

The family of the late Mr. Matthew L. Pinckney has entrusted his final care to the staff at C.C. Carter Funeral Home, Inc.
