Mr. Lee Vernard Washington

Mr. Lee V. Washington of Hampton, VA entered peacefully into eternal rest on Friday, December 20, 2019 at Sentara CarePlex Medical Center, Hampton, VA after a lengthy illness.

He was born on May 5, 1940 to the late Bernard and Gladys Washington in Prince George County, VA.  He was preceded in death by his father Bernard Washignton, mother Gladys Washington Mason, son Gilbert Eugene Washington.  
 

Lee confessed Christ at an early age at St. John Baptist Church in Stony Creek, VA.  After relocating to Hampton, VA he attended Zion Baptist Church in Newport News, VA and later became one of the founding members of Gethsemane Baptist Church, Newport News, VA where he was an active member until his health declined.  

Mr. Washington worked at Newport News Shipbuilding & Drydock Co. until his retirement in 1999.  He also worked at Vann General Hauling, Norshipco, and after retirement he drove the Handi-Ride bus for HRT.  

He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 62 years Elva L. Washington of Hampton, VA; a son David B. Washington (Yvonne) of Hampton, VA, daughters Patricia D. Washington of Phoenix, AZ, and Denise W. Singleton (Dennis) of Hampton, VA; three brothers, Robert D. Washington (Edith), Gwynn Oak, MD, William P. Washington (Elnora), Prince George, VA, Raymond L. Mason, Charlotte, NC, and three sisters Nolie W. Norris, Glen Burnie, MD, Dorothy A. Walton, Petersburg, VA, and Jean P. Harrison (Walter), Petersburg, VA; four grandchildren, Sherhonda I. Washington, Danita N. Washington, Bernard E. L. Washington, Joseph I. Singleton; four great-grandchildren, Ariyana Washington, Christian E. Washington-Brown, Giselle Harris, Bernard E. L. Washington, Jr. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. We would also like to extend a special thank you to Gary Vanhook, Christopher Girardeau, Erika Hardy and Kimberly Johnson.

A viewing will be held from noon until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, December 29, 2019 at C.C. Carter Funeral Home, Inc.

Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 30, 2019 at Gethsemane Baptist Church, 5405 Roanoke Ave, Newport News, Virginia by Rev. Dr. Dwight Riddick, Sr.

Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
