Mr. Jimmy McCalop Obituary

Mr. Jimmy R. McCalop husband of Mrs. Dana Synaker transitioned peacefully Tuesday January 1, 2019.

Jimmy was born on August 14, 1959 in Clinton, North Carolina. He graduated from Plainfield High School in New Jersey.

Jimmy was a wonderful bass guitar player, who played by ear. He taught himself to play at a very young age, where later in his youth he and his brother Joe were in a band called The Quotations and also a group called Sonny and The Soft Hearts.

Around the age of 16, Jimmy started boxing at the local gym in Plainfield. Later Jimmy joined the U.S. Army where he continued to box for the Fort Bliss Falcons until his honorable discharge in 1982. After serving his country in the U.S. Army, he became a certified electrician for many years until he was forced to retire for medical reasons.

In the summer 2009 while working as a supervisor for Sparkle and Shine Cleaning Service, Jimmy met his wife Dana Synaker. On May 25, 2013 they were married, and shortly after they relocated to Newport News, Virginia.

Starting in 2015, Jimmy underwent two back surgeries, in which he recovered and was doing well. However, in 2017 he underwent a third surgery where his health declined. Shortly after, his doctor diagnosed him with MS where he lost full function of his lower body, and was then confined to a wheel chair.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his father Joseph McCalop Sr., his mother Evelyn McPherson, and his brother Tyrone McCalop. Jimmy is survived by his soulmate Dana Synaker, three brothers Joseph McCalop, Pontha McCalop, Ricky McCalop, a sister Evelyn (Lavene) McCalop BoBo, and a step-daughter Eva Synaker. Jimmy is also survived by his family in-law: parents David and Dianne Stephenson, sisters Toni Harris and Cherrie Fisher, and brother Anthony Synaker.

It is the desire of the McCalop family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
