Mr. James A. Woodley, Jr.

Mr. James A. “June Bug” Woodley, Jr. husband of Mrs. Christine Woodley, father of Mr. James K. Woodley, Mr. Jahreese R. Woodley, Mrs. Antoinette Jackson, Mrs. Ayanna T. Adams, and Mrs. Ebony Z. Stewart, transitioned on Thursday, December 26, 2019 at his home in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

James Amble Woodley Jr., age 66 of Newport News, Virginia transitioned on Thursday December 26, 2019 in his home in Fredericksburg, VA. James was affectionately known as “June Bug” by all family and friends. He was a 1971 graduate of Huntington High School, and joined the Army shorty after graduation. James retired from the International Longshoreman Association Local 846 after 25 years of service. With his reggae vibes, he was a vibrant and outgoing person; always full of laughter and joking around. James was a family man always putting family first. James heavily impacted his community for decades as one of the founding fathers of the Aberdeen Raiders. James loved to enlighten others by sharing his words of wisdom about our ancestors and African history.

James was preceded in death by his father James Amble Woodley Sr., his mother Rose Ellen Woodley, sister Dorothy E. Carolina-Greene, and brother Jessie Woodley . Leaving to cherish his memory, his loving wife Christine Hunter Woodley of 48 years. His loving children Antoinette Jackson (Johnny), James “Kwan” Woodley (Tameka ), Ayanna T. Adams (William), Ebony Stewart (Christopher), and Jahreese R. Woodley (Laurie), 13 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews, and 

A viewing will be held from noon until 5:00 p.m. Friday, January 3, 2020 at C.C. Carter Funeral Home, Inc.

Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 4, 2020 at New Hope Baptist Church, 1415 Big Bethel Road, Hampton Virginia by Dr. Christopher C. Carter, Sr.

Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
