Harry “Tootsie Roll” William Marrow “88” on Thursday, July 18, 2019, heard the Master’s call and transitioned peacefully. Harry, who was also known as “Tootsie Roll” to his family and friends, was born in Newport News, Virginia to the late James and Florence Marrow. After graduating from Huntington High School in 1952, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was the owner and operator of Marrow Brick and Block Masonry. Harry was a dedicated and faithful member of Union Baptist Church of Newport News, Virginia. He served God faithfully as a Trustee. Harry was a humble, kind, gentle and loving person. He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Harry is predeceased by the love of his life, Sidney Ann Clarke; parents James Marrow, Florence Marrow; step- mother, Lillie Marrow; two brothers, Albert Marrow and Herbert Marrow.
He leaves to cherish his memories, two daughters, Pamela Y. Marrow and Pamela Clarke-Diggs (Alonzo); one son, Anthony C. Clarke, Sr.; eight grandchildren, Tonette Holden, Lateaia Price, Dameke Thompson, Daniel Thompson, Anthony Clarke, Jr., Isaiah Clarke, Myron Smith, Chris McCright, Jr.; one brother, James “Pee-Wee” Marrow; one sister-in-law, Barbara Jean Marrow; two special friends, Ray Bristow, James Patton, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A viewing for Mr. Harry William Marrow will be held from noon until 5 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2019 at C.C. Carter Funeral Home, Inc.
Services for Mr. Harry William Marrow will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2019 at Union Baptist Church, 361 Maple Ave, Newport News, VA., by Pastor Richard Mims.
Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
