August 26, 2019 God chose to call his beloved son home with Him, Mr. Gregory Eugene Himes, Sr. Gregory Eugene Himes, Sr. was born October 5, 1958 to the late Malcolm Robert Patterson Himes, Sr. and Elizabeth Luzinka Sheppard Himes in Indianapolis, Indiana. Gregory was the youngest boy of the 5 siblings. He received his education from Arsenal Technical High School in 1977 in Indianapolis, Indiana then shortly joined the United States Navy for 8 years. After his military career, Gregory became a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service where he was a hardworking & devoted employee for over 35 years. His hard work & dedication earned him the #1 spot among mail carriers in the city of Newport News, in which he wore proudly. During his employment with the United States Postal Service, he served as a Trustee with National Association of Letter Carriers.
Gregory was preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm Robert Himes, Sr. and Elizabeth Luzinka Sheppard Himes; sister Anita Himes Johnson, Thomas G. Himes, and Malcolm Robert Himes, Jr. Gregory is survived by his son Gregory Eugene Himes, Jr. of Newport News, VA and sister Jacqueline Himes of Newport News, VA, eight nieces and nephews (Cassandra, Dejon, Mark, Malcolm III, Edward, Lori, Lauren, Felisha), special friend Theresa Himes Newport News and a host of loving family and friends. Gregory’s contagious smile and genuine heart touched many. “To my loving brother your actions were always kind, so anxious to please.

A viewing for Mr. Gregory E. Himes Sr., will be held from noon until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at C.C. Carter Funeral Home, Inc.
Services will be held noon Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at New Hope Baptist Church, 1415 Big Bethel Road Hampton, Virginia by Dr. Christopher C. Carter, Sr.
Interment with military honors will be held at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
