It is our deepest regret to announce as of February 17th 2018, George H. Bailey Sr. has passed away.
He retired from the Newport News Shipyard after 45 years of service and also was a dedicated member of the Newport News Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his father Johnie T. Harris, his mother Nannie E. Bailey, his brother Timothy Harris, his son Shelton Bailey and his daughter Deitrcha Bailey.
He is survived by former wife Gathen A. Bailey, two sons; Terry Bailey and George H. Bailey Jr. also his daughter Sheera Bailey; all residents of Newport News, Virginia. He is also survived by two brothers; Stephen Harris and David Harris of Virgilina, VA, five sisters; Esther Mosely of South Boston VA, Audrey Jefferson of Durham NC, Janette Taylor of New Orleans LA, Shelia Tucker of Danville VA and Della Jordan of Boyton VA. Also he leaves a host of nieces, nephews, grand and great grandchildren, also many more dear friends and family.
The ceremony for his departure will be held on Saturday February 24th 2018 at 11:00 am at the Newport News Church of Christ on 5956 Jefferson Avenue, Newport News, Virginia.
All attendees are welcome to gather for refreshments afterwards. His immediate family will be closing the day at the home of George H. Bailey Sr. together.
