Gary Lee Singleton departed from this life on Tuesday, February 26, 2019.
Gary was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and  raise in Newport News. Virginia. He graduated from Denbigh high school in 1982. To many of his classmates, Gary was known as Wahl T. Soon after high school he would faithfully serve his country by joining the United States Marine Corps. 

 


Gary was an avid lover of football.  He played football both in high school and in the Marines. His favorite football team was “America’s team,” the Dallas Cowboys. However, Gary’s true affection was coaching football. He found joy guiding and helping young men develop their skills on the gridiron.

 

Gary believed in uplift in the community. In 1992, he create a nonprofit organization called Peace-N-The-Street. To this nonprofit, Gary with sponsor fundraisers to feed and clothe those in need. In recent years, Gary applied and received grant funding to feed school age children over the summer break.

 

Gary was preceded in death by his father, 1 SG (Ret)  Leroy Singleton, US Army.
He leaves to cherish his memory his best friend and wife of 20 years, Letricia Singleton; his children, Jazselyn and Dezsmein Bynum, Denzsel (Mirchime), Jaizsel and Jazsmein Singleton; his grandsons Kenton, Kason, and Shia; and his granddaughter Jourdan; his mother, Rev. Bessie Singleton; his siblings, Michael, B. Keane (Mary), and Christopher (Robyn) Singleton; aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of loving relatives. 

 

The family is appreciative of the care rendered to Gary by the Hampton Veterans Hospital and the staff of Riverside Regional Medicial Center prior to his passing.
 

A memorial service for Mr. Gary Singleton will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Living Word Ministries C.O.G.I.C. 646 79th Street Newport News, VA 23605.

 

It is the desire of the Singleton family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

 

The family of the late Mr. Gary Singleton has entrusted his final care to the staff at C.C. Carter Funeral home, Inc.
