Mr.Ernest Lynwood Dixon, a resident of Hampton, Virginia, transitioned peacefully on February 19, 2018 at his home after a short illness.


Ernest was born December 26, 1941 in Grifton, North Carolina to the late Herman Lee and Beadie Rae Dixon.  He received his early education at Newsome Park Elementary School and was a graduate of George Washington Carver High School, Class of 1961.


Ernest was an outstanding football player.  Because of the love he had for the sport, Ernest played his Junior and Senior year.  His skills were displayed on and off the field leading the Trojans to victory numerous times.

Shortly after graduation, he was employed at the Newport News Shipbuilders.  In 1962, Ernest enlisted in the United States Navy and received an Honorable Discharge in 1965.  He became a Merchant Seaman for several years.  After living in the Virgin Islands for three years, Ernest returned to his hometown of Newport News to live comfortably.

Ernest is survived by  his wife Brenda G. Dixon, Barbara Ann Bellinger of Hampton, VA, a loving sister and was a devoted caregiver; a brother, Herman Lee Dixon of Hampton, VA; two daughters, Ramona Crichlow (Collin) of Accokeek, MD; Rhonda Murdock (Donald) of New Orleans, LA; one son, Steven Nesbitt (Camille) of Kinston, NC; one grandson, Jaylan Williams and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held at noon on Friday, March 2, 2018 at New Hope Baptist Church, 1415 Big Bethel Road, Hampton, VA 23666.


Following the memorial service, Inurnment with  Military honors will take place at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milner's Rd, Suffolk, VA 23434.It is the desire of the Dixon family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.


The family of the late Mr. Ernest Dixon  has entrusted his final care to the staff of C. C. Carter Funeral Home, Inc.
