Celebrating the Life of Eland Lockley
Mr. Eland Lockley, affectionately know as "Stretch" and "Big Lock" departed this life at his home in Hampton, Virginia on Sunday, June 16, 2019. He was born in Locust Hill, Virginia on August 30, 1950 to the late Amos Lockley and Imeta Lockley.
Eland attended and graduated from the Virginia State School in Hampton, Virginia. He was retired after a tenure of over fifty years at Allied Security and Storage/Apple Moving Company.
Eland enjoyed spending time with his family, daughter, nieces, and nephews. He also enjoyed shooting the breeze with his friends, laughing, joking, and talking trash to everyone! He enjoyed riding to the country on the weekends to visit friends, and family members.
He was always a strong individual, physically and mentally, and even with his health issues, he never lost faith in Jesus Christ. He was always there willing to give a helping hand. He was a father figure and role model to many.
In addition to his parents: Amos Lockley and Imeta Lockley, Eland was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas Earl Lockley, Theodore Lockley Sr. and Herman Lockley; Sisters: Julia Lockley-Jones, and Lucille Lockley-Laboard.
Eland leaves to cherish many memories: two sisters: Ann "Sis" Lockley of Philadelphia, PA, and Josetta Lockley of Saluda, VA; two brothers: Linwood "Lune" Lockley of Plainsfield, NJ; Earl Tony Stokes of Saluda, VA; one daughter Takenya Gilbert; one granddaughter Trinity Osborne; one grandson Keion Osborne; three nieces: Glenda Lockley-Sutherlin,, Renita Lockley-Hunt, and Tamara Lockley-Williams, four nephews: Anthony Lockley; Theodore Lockley Jr, Barry Lockley, and McKinley Earl Stokes and a host of cousins, great nieces, and great nephews.
Poem
A Fallen Limb
A limb has fallen from the family tree.
I keep hearing a voice that says"Grieve not for me.
Remember the best times, the laughter, the jokes.
The good life I lived while I was strong.
Continue my heritage, I'm counting on you.
Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through.
My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest,
Remembering all, how I truly was blessed.
Continue traditions, no matter how small,
Go on with your life, don't worry about falls
I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin
Until the day comes we're together again.
The family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many expressions of love, concern, and kindness shown to them during this hour of bereavement. Your visits, phone calls, prayers, and many acts of kindness have comforted us during this time. Special thanks to Pastor Christopher Carter and the New Hope baptist Church. May God Bless and Keep Each of you!
