And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.”
Revelation 14:13
Dr. Stanley Durant Cypress, son of the late Elder Andrew Arnette Cypress and Mary Parson Cypress was born on December 4, 1947 in Newport News, Virginia. He attended public schools in Isle of Wight County and graduated from Westside High School. At an early age he professed his faith in Jesus Christ and joined the Saints of Runneymede Holiness Church. Anointed to play the organ, Dr. Cypress shared his love for music by serving as the church organist for many years. He also served as a deacon and remained a faithful member until his health began to fail and he was unable to attend regularly.
After graduating from Hampton Institute, Dr. Cypress attended and graduated from the Medical College of Virginia where he earned his doctorate in medicine. From there he went on to practice Hospice and Palliative Medicine and Family Medicine in Newport News, Hampton, and Dillwyn, VA.
In 1979, Dr. Cypress married Brenda Parker and from their union two sons were born. Dr. Cypress was a caring and devoted husband and father who loved his family and friends. He also consistently reached out to help others in different communities, often going out of his way to offer spiritual encouragement, medical advice, and support to those in need.
On Monday, June 3, 2019, Dr. Cypress went home to be with the Lord. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Lorraine Cypress Graves, Florine Cypress Ward, and Jeanette Cypress Parson.
