Ms. Mary Hawkins Obituary

On April 15, 2024, the Lord in His infinite wisdom, who is too wise to err, saw fit to take from our midst our beloved Mary (Lizzy) Hawkins. Mary Hawkins was born to the late Bishop Milton Cook, Sr., and the late Mother Minnie Lee Cook on July 25, 1951, in Surry County Virginia. Mary’s education was obtained through James Weldon Johnson Public School in Yorktown, Virginia. Also, she attended Job Corp, in West Virginia and graduated in great standing. She worked several different jobs; she was employed at William and Mary College in Williamsburg, Virginia for several years. Mary was employed as a companion for Social Service of Newport News, Virginia. After 18 years of providing excellent care to many families in the Newport News area, Mary retired from Social Service.

Mary Hawkins, accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior at an early age, was baptized in Jesus’ name and filled with the gift of the Holy Ghost. Mary sung in the choir and her favorite song was “It’s a Rushing Mighty Wind.” Oh, what a wonderful time we had singing in the choir. She will be missed for her great cooking, fried fish, fried potatoes, homemade potato salad, complete holiday cooking meals and we cannot forget the sweet potato pies… Lizzy will be remembered for being a friend to so many people as well as a loved member of the Pinecroft Community. She was a wonderful mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother and was always there for those who needed her. She was well loved and will be missed.

Mary is survived by her two daughters, Sebina Stalling and Tameka Simmon; her grandchildren, Ciara Stalling, Jasmine Stalling, Dino Stalling, Shameka Simmon, Daphne Simmon, and David Simmon, Jr.; great grandchildren, Armani Alvarez, Samuel Alvarez Jr., and Alana Stalling. She was preceded in death by two Sisters, Catherine Wallace, Sunjy Cook and Brother, Leon Cook. Remaining to celebrate her legacy of life are her sisters Connie Cook, Debra Campbell (Willie), Angela Lewis (Walter) and Rosalind Cook; and Brothers, Milton Cook, Jr, Jerome Cook (Camella), Elder Reginald T. Cook, and Jeffery Cook. Also, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

It is the desire of the Hawkins family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
