Mr. McArthur “Mack” Royster was born on August 28, 1945, in Littleton, North Carolina, and was the first child of the late Major Royster and Juanita Phipps Royster. He peacefully transitioned from this earthly life and went home to his heavenly Father on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at his home in Newport News, Virginia.
“Mack” professed faith in Jesus Christ and joined the Cedar Brance Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina, at the age of fourteen. He was excited that his grandfather, Rev. Luther Royster, was the one who baptized him and showed him the way to the Lord. Even after moving from the area years ago and attending other houses of worship, he never changed his membership from the Cedar Branch Missionary Baptist Church. What a Wonderful Testament!
“Mack” received his education in the Halifax County Public School System and graduated with the class of 1963 from the former McIver High School in Littleton, North Carolina. He was drafted into the United States Army, served his country, and was honorably discharged in 1968. He relocated to Newport News, Virginia, and became employed at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company. He worked faithfully for numerous years and retired in 2009 after declining health became a challenge for him.
From early childhood, “Mack” was always joyful and happy, loved to joke around, and shared that special relationship with others.
“Mack” is survived by his six siblings: Donnell Royster (Abigail), Roselynda Harvey (Jessie), Melanie Thompson, Milton Royster, Shirlon Battle (Rev. Joseph), and Gladys Burgess; his three aunts, Endie Webb, and the two he referred to as his “Rock”, Evelyn Wills and Earlean Phipps; his relished cousin, Marvin Royster, who provided him with unconditional support and comfort during his time of need and was there when he transitioned to his next journey; his devoted cousin and special friend from the Tidewater area, Isaac “Ike” Royster and Eva Warfield; his cherished nieces and nephews, some of whom, had similar life traits; his cousins, other relatives, and the many friends he had gained over the years.
“Mack” will be greatly missed, but never, ever forgotten by those who knew and loved him.
